I wanted to be able to make my own decisions and not place any restrictions on how successful I can be. My father and uncle were in the insurance business. I spent some time in their offices when I was in high school, saw how successful they were, and developed an interest in starting my own insurance agency.

2. If you could change one decision or action you've made in your career, what would it be?

I really have no regrets. I don't look back because there isn't anything I could or would change. I'm very happy with the decisions I've made.

3. What's the hardest thing about running a business?

Paying attention to all of the details, no matter how small. It can be overwhelming at times. You have to stay focused and be willing to accept change, and also willing to commit to the hours, discipline, continuous learning, and frustrations of owning your own business.

4. What are some key lessons you've learned in your professional and personal life that you think everyone can learn from?

There are no shortcuts. There are no secrets or magic. Hard work and perseverance will help make you successful.

Never put your job before your family. Keep things in perspective. Set your priorities and stick with them.

5. What are the three most important things a person needs to be successful? Why?

-Have a written business plan and follow it. This will help to keep you focused and stay on track.

-Have a good marketing strategy and strong networking connections. This is vital to bringing in business and developing a resource for referrals.

-Be able to persevere during adverse times. If you are not able adapt to the challenging times your business might not survive the bumps in the road.

 6. What is your definition of success?

Having accomplished all of your goals. Earning the respect and compliments of those you associate with. Distinguishing yourself from other businesses around you. Separating yourself from your competitors by being the best at what you do.

7. If you could give advice to a recent graduate or someone just beginning their career, what would you tell them?

Be honest. Earning the respect of everyone you deal with each and every day will go a long way. Never compromise your integrity, regardless of the situation.

Treat your employees and customers well. They are the most important part of your business. Without them, you would not be where you are.

Don't be afraid to take risks and always be willing to learn. Focus on your strengths and make full use of what you do best. Be organized and share ideas with other successful people.

Never let success go to your head. Remember where you came from, those who helped get you there, and how hard you worked to be successful. Always keep things in perspective.
