RYE, NY — The recent deep freeze caused problems for man and beast alike, but first responders were in a position to lend a hand when a swan got its tail feathers in a bunch.

On Friday, the City of Rye Police Department and the City of Rye Fire Department responded to a call involving a distressed mute swan that had become partially frozen to a pond in icy conditions. This ad hoc production of Swan Lake had a happy ending, thanks to the training and quick action of the first responders.

The video was captured with the City of Rye Police Department drone, which offered the rescuers a safe aerial view of the situation.
