What to do when your roof leaks
A roof leak is not resolved only by placing buckets underneath to catch the water.

A roof leak is not resolved only by placing buckets underneath to catch the water. Drips from the ceiling can produce a significant damage if not to be given attention as soon as possible. If there is any trickling of water from the ceiling there might be a large collection of water above it. Aside from damaging the ceiling, the problem could also lead to deterioration of other parts of the roof. Mildew, molds, and rotting wood could also develop which increases the need for it to be attended.
Treat Leaks as an Emergency
Every roof leak should be treated as an immediate concern to avoid having more wreckage and endanger the safety of people living underneath. Before calling for experts to do their task, have the time to inspect the roof for whatever damage there is up there.
What you should do are the following:
1. Locate the leak and trace where it came from. Examine whether there are holes or faults with the installation. Directly looking from under the ceiling is advised as it will give an idea where to start looking for a leak.
2. If there is a pooling of water above the ceiling, drill a hole to let the water pass through. Doing this will prevent the water from dispersing all over the area. Do not forget to place a bucket under to avoid the furniture and the floor from getting wet.
3. Examine the leak from the outside. Measure how extensive any damage is.
4. Determine whether the damages are small enough for you to simply repair it for the meantime.
5. Decide when to call for the roofers to check on the problem. It is suggested not to wait too long as the damage could extend and become bigger if not treated right away.
A roof leak may lead to more serious roof problems. Sometimes there will be a need to replace the roof altogether and this may cost more. One of the ways to avoid this to happen is by doing a thorough examination of the roof and if there are leaks, treats it like an emergency.
Keeping the roof free from any damage will save you a lot of trouble.
