Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: March 21

A snapshot of some recent police activity in the town.

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town.

Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction.

  • A Medford man fired a gun into a group of people during a fight on Broadway in Port Jefferson at about 1:45 a.m. on March 6, police said. Kariem Harrell, 19, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, according to police.

He was additionally charged with a robbery from back in January, in which he waved a gun at a man on West Yaphank Road in Gordon Heights and stole his Coach wallet containing a driver's license, credit cards, and an insurance card, police said. Harrell was charged with first-degree robbery at the 6th Precinct in Selden, according to police. Police initially said the victim had been pistol-whipped in a robbery involving at least three men. Harrell has not posted bail, according to online court records.

  • Gunshots were fired outside of a home in Port Jefferson Station just before 11 p.m. on March 9, police said. A resident of a George Street home reported hearing gunshots and then found bullet holes outside of the home, said police, adding, that no one was injured. No arrests have been made.
  • A man was beaten at Diamond in the Pines on Route 112 in Coram just before 6 p.m. on March 18, police said. He told officers that he was punched in the face and fell, which caused an abrasion to his leg and then he took himself to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. No arrests have been made.
  • Copper piping and a water heater were stolen from a home on Upton Drive in Sound Beach sometime between November and March.
  • A man reported being stabbed in the shoulder on Elder Drive in Mastic Beach at about midnight on March 16, police said. He did not provide any additional information to officers, said police, adding that, he was treated for his injuries at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. No arrests have been made.
  • A man and woman entered an unlocked door at Little Mexico Restaurant on Middle Country Road in Middle Island at about 4 a.m. on March 17 and stole money from the tip jar and a cash register.
  • A 2004 pickup truck parked on Edgewood Avenue in Ronkonkoma was broken into at about 1 and 8:15 a.m. on March 18 and tools and power drills were stolen.
  • Someone smashed a glass door at Yeung's Chinese Restaurant on Portion Road in Farmingville and stole cash from the register at about 2:30 a.m. on March 18.
  • A man tried to swipe tools from The Home Depot in North Patchogue, but he was scared off by an employee at about 1:20 p.m. on March 19.
  • A purse containing credit cards, cash, and identification was stolen from an unlocked 2021 Chevy at about 3 a.m. on March 19.
  • Someone broke a glass door at a home on Babylon Road in Mastic Beach and stole a computer monitor, television remote, and cash at about 2 p.m. on March 7 and 10:30 a.m. on March 12.
