FARMINGVILLE, NY — There is an effort to raise money for a Long Island family that lost everything in a devastating fire last Sunday morning.

An off-duty firefighter from the Farmingville Fire Department had noticed the fire just after 1 a.m. on Sunday as he was driving past a home on Woodycrest Drive in Farmingville, Suffolk police said, adding that he stopped and went inside the home and was able to get the residents to safety.

Farmingville firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze, and three ended up sustaining "non-life-threatening injuries" and were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.

No one else was injured, but the family who lives in the home lost all of their belongings.

A GoFundMe has been created by Felisa Mahabal to help the extended family experiencing the financial aftermath of the five-alarm fire.

"Today we’ve lost everything," she wrote Monday. "But thankfully everyone, children, parents, and grandparents alike are safe and sound. Our lives were spared. The faces of our two beautiful children (Jair 11yrs old, Emmily 6yrs old) are still smiling at us."

So far, about 80 people have donated over $6,500.

The page was set up in response to all the generous requests to assist "our family in this difficult time," she writes.

"We are grateful for all the kind words and well wishes and for any financial support donated," the post concludes.

Mahabal did not respond to a request for comment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Suffolk police's Arson Squad.
