Sachem Alum Turns Entrepreneur, Starts CJ Media Solutions

Christopher J. Arlotta uses today's tough job market to his advantage by paving his own way to success.

While many college graduates have been spending their post-graduation months in limbo, Sachem and SUNY Albany alumnus Christopher J. Arlotta has been busy building CJ Media Solutions.

Founded in August, the startup company provides businesses, brands and individuals with consultations and assistance regarding all facets of social media marketing.

A political science and criminal justice double major, Arlotta began freelance writing for the Social Times while in college. The position gave him the opportunity to connect with social media and gaming experts, experiences that contributed to his growing interest in social media. His knowledge of the field was further magnified through his involvement with various political campaigns.

“When working on a campaign, you’re basically marketing your candidate,” Arlotta said. “It’s marketing, whether you’re promoting a person, a brand or a small business. You’re trying to shape that person’s image and show the public that he or she should be elected. This same philosophy extends to the use of social media for brands and small businesses.”

Most young adults have a fairly advanced degree of knowledge of social media platforms, but Arlotta possesses the ability to view the field from a business angle. For this reason, he decided to take his interest in social media marketing a step further and turn it into a full-blown company.

“I think I had the idea for the company all along,” Arlotta said. “I was doing what CJ Media Solutions does anyway, so I figured why not make it a business?”

There has been a visible shift from traditional marketing to social media marketing over the last few years, a reality that is changing the way that businesses garner interest in their products and services. The existence of CJ Media Solutions is reliant upon this growing need for viral interaction between businesses and consumers.

“People like to be engaged,” Arlotta said. “They don’t want to be told what to do anymore, and that’s the big difference between social media marketing and traditional marketing, which has fallen to the wayside. People want to get in on the conversation, and businesses need to both understand and take advantage of this change.”

CJ Media Solutions offers its clients social media marketing, social media optimization and social media consulting on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Since the field of social media is not a one-size-fits-all concept, the company assesses its clients’ needs on a case-by-case basis to determine the necessary services and resulting costs.

“I want to be able to work with all of my clients on a personal level,” Arlotta said. “I don’t ever want to get to a point where they’re just a number. I want them to know that we’re there for them, and that they can trust us to do whatever needs to be done to meet their goals.”

You can find CJ Media Solutions on Facebook, and you can contact the company at cjmediasolutions@gmail.com.
