Scavenger Hunt List for High School Shocks Community
The list includes unsavory, unsafe and illegal activities.

One of the notable Patch stories from 2014.
Sachem East seniors taking part in a scavenger hunt Sunday night “created havoc all through the town,” according to one local resident, as they pursued a list of activities that ranged from the unsavory to the outright illegal.
Participants in the scavenger hunt, a tradition dating back years, received “points” for activities like driving 100 mph, stealing a mailbox and dancing on a grave, according to a list of obtained by Patch.

A photo on Twitter showing a white car with the windshield smashed in has been “favorited” 248 times, mostly by Sachem East students.
Initial police reports from Sunday night do not seem to show an unusual uptick in reported criminal activity in the area. However, police said someone on Knickerbocker Avenue in Holbrook reported that their mailbox was stolen overnight.
The graves of four Civil War soldiers at Lake Ronkonkoma Cemetery were also damaged sometime over the weekend, according to the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association.
Reached by phone Monday night, Sachem East Principal Lou Antonetti said he was “speechless” when he saw the activities on the scavenger hunt list, which he said was “definitely not a school sponsored event.”
“It’s not the way we want we want our students represented in the community,” Antonetti said.
