Be Kind (even when you don't feel like it)

Wherever there is a human being, there's a chance for kindness.

Ok so do you remember 10 years ago right after the tragedy of September 11, 2001 how everyone seemed to be more cognizant that we are all human beings and there was a collective outpouring of genuine caring?  Maybe you helped someone struggling carrying something.  Maybe you waved someone on who wanted to make a turn even though you clearly had the right of way.  Maybe you popped in on your elderly neighbor down the block because you know they live alone and could use a little company.  Maybe you just looked a stranger in the eyes, wished them a good night, and really meant it.

You remember.  I know you do.

But time passed and so did this  collective consciousness of caring.  We backslid into living in an increasingly rude, disrespectful, greedy, selfish, self righteous society.  We judge each other.  We’re quick to jump down one another’s throats. The phrase “excuse me” isn’t even is some people’s vocabulary. It’s really sad that we’ve lost a polite connection with one another as human beings.

I recognize that it is impossible to be compassionate toward others 100% of the time.  I know we’re all not rude and selfish but it can happen if we’re not careful.

I challenge you to strike back against the selfishness and greed of our modern world, and help out a fellow human being today. Not next month, next week or tomorrow, but today.

It makes you feel better about yourself, connects you with another person, and makes the world a better place one step at a time.  Kindness passed on will multiply, multiply, multiply.
