Bistro 25
45 FOSTER AVENUE, SAYVILLE
If it is Wednesday, then it’s Fish and Chips at Bistro 25. But don’t stop with
the batter dipped tilapia when there are so many other delectable dishes on the
menu.
The small plate appetizers are just-right portions for a light meal or a fabulous
beginning to a wonderful dinner experience. I have had the Mushroom Risotto and
the Truffled Macaroni and Cheese; true decadent comfort foods. A terrific
selection of unique sandwiches, classic burgers, creative light salads, a raw
bar, amazing pastas and the always appealing entrees fill the one page menu.
The wine list consists of a bounty of bottles for $25 (ergo the name Bistro
25), as well as a few premium labels.

Matt, his sister, Carla, and I, started our midweek meal with a few small plate
selections. The Roasted Beet and Asparagus Salad with white pear, frissee and
goat cheese drizzled with a sherry vinaigrette was as sweet and savory as it sounded. The Fried Oysters were tasty and the New England Clam Chowder sported chunks of tender clam and firm potatoes; simply wonderful!
We ordered a bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc Casas Patronalales . As recommended by our knowledgeable waitress, it was crisp and grapefruity with an apple finish. The wine perfectly accompanied the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich with extra remoulade sauce. The Pappardelle was dressed in a plum tomato meat ragu with shaved pecorino topping…oh my! What an incredible meld of tomato and pork on the wide flat pasta! Linguini, cockles and chorizo in a white wine
garlic sauce appealed to my ultimate need for comfort food and did not
disappoint.

The desserts are always prepared on the premises so we had to order the Homemade Orange Vanilla Bean Sorbet ( like a creamsicle!) and the Lemon Blackberry Tarte Tarinon on a puff pastry pillow . What a perfect ending to our Wednesday night out.
Bistro 25 is opened year round, spacious, welcoming and consistently a great meal for a fair price. Professional waitstaff, friendly host/owner, and talented chef/owner add up to gem of restaurant right in our neighborhood.
