Brinkmann Hardware Doubles in Size
The True Value Hardware expands building by 6,000 square feet, offers wider selection.
Blue Point's Brinkmann True Value Hardware has more than doubled in size since the Brinkmann family bought the building in 2004.
The building, which was previously Blue Point Hardware, was just expanded by 6,000 feet – growing to 11,000 square feet. During the construction, the original building was completely renovated to accompany the new addition that was attached to the rear of the store, creating a "T" shape.
"We bought the place with the intention of expanding it, but we didn't do anything until now," owner Tony Brinkmann said.

Brinkmann said the space was needed to hold more products. "We especially expanded the paint, power tools and outdoor equipment departments, but every single department now offers a larger selection," Brinkmann said.
The computer system at Brinkmann's was also upgraded. It is now directly linked to national distributor, True Value Hardware Company. Brinkmann's revamped computers track what the store sells and automatically re-orders those products from a large distribution center in Pennsylvania.

While the Brinkmann's own seven hardware and paint stores across Suffolk County, they are Bayport locals. Tony Brinkmann has lived in Bayport all his life and takes pride in living and working in the same community.
Brinkmann also said the bad economy made the renovation possible. Since contractors are not as busy as they would be in more prosperous times, Brinkmann had some leeway in terms of time and money needed for the job.
The $1.5 million project was completed by Bayport-based construction company, Lipsky Management, Inc.
Despite the opinion of many that some larger, more well-known hardware stores offer more inexpensive products, Brinkmann said this is not the case anymore. "They don't really have the advantage anymore, now smaller stores are able to obtain discounts when buying too," he said.
Lenore Ringer-Prezioso, the newly installed Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce secretary, said she was very excited when the revitalized store re-opened.
"This is a great addition to the neighborhood. It offers a big-box selection with the familiar feel of the local hardware store it always was because of the great service," Ringer-Prezioso said.
To officially celebrate the new-and-improved store, Brinkmann True Value Hardware has planned a Grand Opening event for Aug. 7. The festivities will include musical performances and a Blue Point Beer tasting. Circulars including special grand opening sales will be distributed soon, said Brinkmann.
