Canada's "Miracle Tea"

Perhaps many of you have heard of a natural remedy for cancer called "Essiac." This all natural herbal tea is marketed under a variety of names, including "Flor-Essence."  

The history of this remedy is a long one, and one that I don't have the space to tell, but readily available all over the web and in bookstores.  Of course, it is marketed as an herbal tea,  not as  a "cancer cure," as the FDA would certainly have a hissy at that, but there is much evidence to show that it is indeed helpful in the treatment of many cancers. 

Rene Caisse, a Canadian nurse, was given the formula by a patient who had used it against her own breast cancer.  After years of making the formula available to her own patients without charge, Rene teamed with Dr. Charles Brusch, the personal physician to President John F. Kennedy, who used the formula to  successfully treat his own cancer and that of many patients at his clinic in Massachusetts. 

The road was not a smooth one, and Rene and Dr. Brusch were accused of quackery on many an occasion.  Still, Rene and Dr. Brusch persevered and many cures were attributed to their treatments. The Canadian government did all in it's power to suppress the formula, and at Rene's death, burned nearly all her notes and research in barrels in her own backyard. 

Why would they do that, do you think? Essiac/ Flor-essence is an Ojibwa Indian formula consisting of burdock root, turkey rhubarb root, sheep sorrel and slippery elm bark. In 1966, two Hungarian scientists found "considerable anti-tumor activity" in a purified fraction of burdock root.  In 1984, scientists at Nagoya University in Japan discovered burdock root contained a new type of "desmutagen," a substance that reduces cell mutation in either the presence OR absence of metabolic activation.  In other words, it always worked. They felt this was so important, they named it the "B Factor," for "burdock factor."  

Turkey rhubarb root was shown to have considerable anti-tumor activity in the sarcoma -37 animal test system. Most herbalists believe that it's the synergy and interaction of the combined herbal elements that contribute to their therapeutic effects.

Essiac /Flor-essence is available in most health food stores and also on the internet. It should not be used during active chemotherapy because it has been shown to increase its effects, much like anti-oxidant vitamins. But it can be used safely in between treatments and as an herbal tonic. Essiac/Flor-essence strengthens the organs of elimination and cleanses the bowel, builds both red and white blood cells and removes cellular debris from the liver and kidneys.  It can't hurt you when taken according to directions. I take it daily to maintain a healthy bowel.
