Butoh Dances at The Art Lab

On Sunday, August 14th, two very special Butoh dance performances will be given by Robyn Bellospirito at The ART Lab at The Common Ground in Sayville, NY. The first will be a Butoh dance performance given by Robyn Bellospirito that will feature special guest musician Tracy Hamilton, who will be drumming live as part of the performance along to a piece of recorded music she has created for the event. The second performance will be a Tango-Butoh performance given by Robyn Bellospirito and Argentine Tango dancer Con Artist, who have combined their talents to create a unique fusion of the two dances which they refer to as "TaBu" Tango-Butoh.

Japanese Butoh dance appeared in Japan following World War II. Although it began as a dance of darkness, Kazuo Ohno, one of Butoh's founders, developed his own style which was more a dance of the spirit. Bellospirito's dance is inspired by Kazuo Ohno whose gentle, fluid, expressive movements emerged from a place of universal love.

Robyn Bellospirito is a professional visual artist of over 25 years, a performance artist and Butoh dancer. Con Artist is a painter as well as a distinguished Argentine "Tanguero", or leader who has given Tango performances in NYC and Long Island. Tracy Hamilton is an accomplished drummer and musician who plays a Dunun and runs drum circles throughout Long Island.

The Community Art Lab runs from noon to 3pm and is held at Rotary Park in Sayville, NY between Candee and Gillette Ave. It is an open arts festival where an eclectic group of unique artists in varying fields gather to display their art for the community. Arts featured include painting, crafts, music, dancing, yoga and more. For more information please visit: http://thecommonground.com or www.robynbellospirito.com.
