Police investigating fatal shooting Tuesday morning.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man in Central Islip Tuesday morning.

Third Precinct police officers responded to Nicoll Avenue, south of Messina Street, after a 911 caller reported hearing shots fired at 5:50 a.m., police said.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man who had been shot lying on the street. The man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
