Police: Blue Point Man Arrested After Attempting to Rob Deer Park 7-Eleven

A Blue Point man was arrested early Saturday morning after police say he attempted to rob a Deer Park 7-Eleven.

According to police, Richard Mateo, 37, entered the store located at 385 Commack Road at 1:40 a.m., displayed a knife and demanded cash from a clerk. 

Mateo fled the scene with no proceeds, but he was arrested less than a half hour later in Babylon. 

Mateo is charged with first degree robbery. He was arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday and is currently being held on $40,000 cash bail or $120,000 bond.
