Police: Riverhead Man Drove Stolen Car Wrong Way on Highway While Fleeing Police

A Riverhead man driving a stolen Jeep attempted to flee police by driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway early Wednesday morning before being caught inside a Bohemia home a short time later, police said. 

According to police, Fifth Precinct officer Jason Keenan observed Robert Noon III, 39, driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported stolen from Yaphank on April 15 on Main Street in Patchogue just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. 

When the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, Noon fled and entered Sunrise Highway at Route 112, police said. Noon then made a U-turn and traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes, police said. 

Due to safety concerns, Keenan and assisting officers stopped pursuing Noon, who subsequently abandoned the vehicle in Bohemia, police said.

Officers located the vehicle and canine officers were able to establish a track on Noon, who was found inside a home located at 31 13th St. in Bohemia. Police did not say if Noon had any connection to the home. 

Noon is charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property, third degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. 

Noon will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Thursday.
