Police: Sayville Man Arrested After Trying to Break Into Local Business

Incident occurred late Friday night.

A Sayville man was arrested after he attempted to break into a local business on Friday, police said.

According to police, Fifth Precinct Patrol Officer Michael Ferrara observed a man with a flashlight walking in the roadway on North Main Street at about 11:50 p.m. While interviewing the man, who was carrying a chisel and a wrench, Ferrara received a call of an attempted burglary in the area.

The officer’s investigation determined that the man, identified as 41-year-old Michael Collins, had used the tools to break a window at Alan S. Gross Plumbing and Heating, located at 380 N. Main Street.

Collins was arrested and charged with third degree attempted burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.

Collins was held overnight at Fifth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
