PSEG Long Island Warns of Growing Phone Scam

What you need to know about the scam and how to protect yourself.

PSEG Long Island is warning of a growing phone scam that is targeting utility customers.

Here's how the scam works:

  • Phone scammers posing as PSEG employees call and insist you are delinquent on your bill.
  • They may also threaten to turn off your power, rig caller ID to make it look like the call is from PSEG Long Island or tell you to put the money on a prepaid debit card and ask for the card number.
  • Don't believe it.

Do not pay over the phone if the caller demands immediate payment to avoid a disconnection or that you pay using only one specific payment method, PSEG officials say.
