Relive Sayville in the 1950s and 60s.

Chris Bodkin recounts growing up in Sayville

Chris Bodkin was born in Brooklyn but his heart belongs to Sayville. For him, nothing beat a summer on the Great South Bay with tree-lined streets, plenty of time for sailing, and a pocketful of money made from a few hours clamming the bay. It was a different time - when traffic was unheard of, the bay froze every winter, and pizza was an exotic food.

We take a walk through Sayville with Chris on a special series of episodes of The Long Island History Project called “Bodkin’s Book of Sayville”. Chapter 1 is available now

Look for chapters 2 and 3 in the next few days. We’ll be talking about Sayville’s veterans, the Fire Island ferries, and Father Divine. You can lets us know what you think by emailing longislandhistoryproject@gmail.com.
