A box truck with engine malfunction was rear-ended by another box truck at around 7:40 p.m., Suffolk police say.
YAPHANK, NY — A portion of the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank was shut for nearly three hours on Thursday night after a box truck driver was hurt when the vehicle was rear-ended and he lost control of it, Suffolk police said.
At around 7:40 p.m., a man driving a 2023 box truck westbound on the expressway experienced engine malfunction and tried to pull the truck into the right adjacent lane to park on the right shoulder, according to police.
The truck was rear-ended by a 2022 box truck driven by another man, and the collision caused the driver of the first truck to lose control of the vehicle, which became disabled in a wooded area, police said.
