Suffolk Man Bolts After Sedan Strikes, Seriously Injures Bicyclist In East Islip: Cops

The 30-year-old bicyclist was taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment, police said.

RIDGE, NY — A 33-year-old Ridge man was behind the wheel of a luxury sedan that struck and seriously injured a bicyclist in East Islip on Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

The 30-year-old Islip man was riding his bicycle eastbound on Union Boulevard when he was struck by a Chrysler Concorde, near the intersection of Carleton Avenue, around 9:25 a.m., but the driver skipped the scene, according to police.

The man who was struck was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay
Shore, police said, adding, that the driver and the Chrysler were located a short time later.

The sedan was impounded, police said.

The 33-year-old driver was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury, a misdemeanor. He will be held overnight at the 3rd Precinct for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

It was the second of two serious crashes involving bicyclists in Suffolk on Saturday.
