Kayaker Goes Missing in Lake Ronkonkoma

The search for a missing kayaker in Lake Ronkonkoma was suspended Thursday night due to darkness and will resume Friday morning, police said.

Officers from the Suffolk County Marine Bureau, Emergency Service Section, Aviation Section and Parks Police, along with members of numerous fire departments searched for hours Thursday for the male kayaker, who witnesses saw in distress in the lake at about 3:30 p.m., police said.

The kayaker was calling for help and several good Samaritans attempted to help but they lost sight of him, police said.

In 2012, a father drowned in Lake Ronkonkoma while attempting to retrieve a remote controlled boat.
