Pedestrian Seriously Hurt in Hit-and-Run in Central Islip
Accident occurred on Carleton Avenue Sunday night, police say.

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who mowed down a pedestrian in Central Islip Sunday night.
According to police, a man was crossing Carleton Avenue at Brightside Avenue when he was struck by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene at about 9:25 p.m. The victim was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was in serious condition and being treated for head injuries.
The victim’s identity has not been determined, police said. He is described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 20s. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a graphic design in the front and back, Buffalo-brand blue jeans, a royal blue belt and gray Sketchers sneakers.

The incident is under investigation by the Vehicular Crime Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash is asked to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
