Eastern Suffolk Getting Brunt of Early Spring Snow

It won't feel much like spring this weekend.

The ninth day of spring is looking more like winter on Long Island.

Up to 2 inches of snow fell Saturday morning across parts of eastern Suffolk, where snow accumulations may reach 3 inches by the end of the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall estimates have inched up slightly for the eastern half of the island, but Nassau remains in line for less than an inch of snow, the NWS says.

The forecast for the rest of Saturday: snow “likely” in Suffolk and “a chance” of snow in Nassau.

The National Weather Service has not issued any advisories for the area as snow accumulations are “mainly confined to grassy surfaces.”

A high temperature near 37 degrees on Saturday will drop to around 23 at night and send wind chill temperatures to as low as 10 degrees. Sunday will be chilly, but dry, with a high near 40.

The good news: next week should be much more spring-like, with highs expected to be near 50 degrees all week.
