Congratulations to Smithtown High School West sophomore Leighann Guardino, who advanced to the semifinal round of the English Speaking Union’s 32nd annual National Shakespeare Competition, recently held at the historic main branch of the New York Public Library in Manhattan.
After winning a number of local competitions, Leighann squared off against more than 20 students from the New York area, winning a special recognition award for her placement.
The Shakespeare Competition is adjudicated by industry professionals who base their scores on student analysis, performance choices and recitation of Shakespearean monologues and sonnets. Leighann, who starred in HSW’s unique interpretation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” last fall, is congratulated here by drama teacher Jim Brannigan (left) and Principal John Coady.
