Feast Of San Gennaro Returns To Little Italy For 100th Year

NEW YORK CITY —The annual Feast of San Gennaro Festival kicks off in Lower Manhattan's Little Italy this week.

The festival held on Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston streets will take place on Thursday and will run through Sept. 27.

The Grand Procession will feature floats, celebrities, a gondola, the festival band, the statue of San Gennaro and antique cars.

The 10-day festival will feature cannoli, pizza, meatball, and zeppole eating contests, an opera night, and a high mass celebrating the patron Saint of Naples, among other events.

The Feast of San Gennaro Festival was created in 1926 by a group of Italian immigrants who decided to have a one-day block party for the patron saint and protector of Naples — Saint Gennaro.
