Bill O’Connell and Richie Flores Duo

Percussionist Richie Flores and pianist/composer Bill O'Connell present an intimate duo performance rooted in jazz and Afro Latin traditions as part of the McIver Piano Jazz Series. Drawing on decades of collaboration, improvisation, and rhythmic interplay, the duo explores music shaped by Afro Caribbean rhythms, contemporary jazz, and Latin American musical traditions. Richie Flores has built an international career as a percussionist, educator, arranger, and bandleader.  He became active in New York’s Latin music scene at an early age and has worked with major figures including Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, Gato Barbieri, David Sánchez, and The Manhattan Transfer.  Bill O’Connell is a pianist, composer, and arranger whose career has included collaborations with Mongo Santamaria, Dave Valentin, Sonny Rollins, and Chet Baker, among others. He has released numerous recordings as a leader and has been recognized for his arranging and compositional contributions. Registration required.
