Drunk Dad Busted After Crash, Rollover With Son, 7, In Car: Police

The man had no license due to a prior DWI and was required to have interlock device in the vehicle, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY: A Southampton father drove drunk, crashed into a utility pole, and was involved in a rollover accident — with his son, 7, in the car, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the accident took place on Saturday at 11:39 p.m. when Vicente Zhunio, 47, struck a utility pole on North Sea Road near Majors Path.

The vehicle rolled over onto its side, police said.

Zhunio was intoxicated, police said.

Zhunio and his son were taken to Southampton Hospital for medical evaluation; Zhunio was treated for minor injuries and released into the custody of the police, authorities said. His child was not injured and he was released into the care of a family member, police said.

A check of Zhunio's driving record revealed his driving privileges in New York had been revoked for a prior DWI and that he was required to have an interlock device in the vehicle, police said.

Zhunio arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child in the vehicle, a violation of Leandra's Law and a felony, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, endangering the welfare of child, a misdemeanor, and circumventing an interlock device, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was transported to police headquarters for processing and held for morning arraignment, police said.
