Hello, Southampton! I'm Sean Peek and I'm filling in for your usual curator Diane for the next couple of days. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 81 Low: 55.

Here are the top three stories in and around Southampton today:

  1. On Saturday night, an Aquebogue man was charged with driving while intoxicated after Southampton Town police received reports of an "erratic driver" on State Route 27 in Hampton Bays. Officials stopped Jose Golpeataxca, 33, in Flanders, after he was seen crossing over the designated travel lane, police said. He was brought to Southampton Town policeheadquarters and charged with misdemeanor DWI and numerous traffic infractions. (Southampton Patch)
  2. Southampton Town police arrested and charged a Mt. Sinai man after he reportedly stole merchandise from an AT&T store in Bridgehampton over the weekend. According to officials, Michael Delvecchio, 29, allegedly cut security tethers from a mobile device on display and stole it. Delvecchio was found to have an active warrant issued by Suffolk County Court and was taken to Southampton Town police headquarters for arraignment. (Southampton Patch)
  3. Long Island school districts and families are concerned about next month's expiration of a federal program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all schoolchildren. About 800,000 students across New York State will be affected when the program expires on Jun. 30, according to nonprofit group Hunger Solutions New York. After this date, only students whose parents meet specific income requirements will continue to receive free or reduced-price meals after the expiration. "Letting waivers expire so abruptly and while providers are still facing significant operational challenges does nothing but pull the rug out from underneath providers and kids struggling with hunger," said Jessica Pino-Goodspeed, Child Nutrition Programs specialist with Hunger Solutions New York.
