Fundraising Campaign Started to Help Local Dog Become a Police Dog

The dog has been living at the Southampton Animal Shelter for the past three years.

The Southampton Animal Shelter recently started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe in order to help one of their dogs, Cowboy, get the chance to become a police dog.

Cowboy, who is 5-years-old, he has spent the last three years living at the shelter.

“He is living the life of a prisoner,” the GoFundMe page, created by Kate McEntee, chairperson of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s junior committee and a member of the advisory board, reads.

However recently, Cowboy was offered the chance to become a police dog.

His program will consist of cross training in which he will learn the skills and gain the confidence to become a member of the K9 police force as well as train in narcotics detection and tracking.

The total cost of the program is $6,000, but the shelter found a sponsor who will match every dollar raised up to $3,000.

The money has to be raised by Sunday in order for Cowboy to start the program.

Since the page was created on Thursday, a total of $2,700 has been raised.

“Cowboy needs $3,000 to change his life and achieve his dreams,” the page reads.
