ICYMI: Police Say Long Island Daycare Teachers Force Fed Children, Slammed Them on Floor

Two daycare workers were arrested on child abuse charges in Southampton on Saturday, according to Southampton Town Police.

Southampton detectives along with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and Suffolk County Child Protective Services investigated allegations of abuse at the Side By Side Child Care at 505 North Sea Road, police said.

During an on-site visit on Saturday, detectives arrested two employees: Kathleen Culver, 33, of Southampton, and Sarah M. Dawber, 23, of Mastic Beach. Both women were teachers and worked in the infant room tending to children ranging from 4-18 months old, according to police.

On several occasions they force fed, pushed and slammed the children down on the floor, police said.

One 18-month-old child vomited from being force fed, but no other injuries have been reported, according to police.

Both women were arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services is continuing an investigation into the daycare center, police said.

Detectives are asking any parents and guardians of children who have attended the daycare center to contact them if they have any information that may aid in the continuing investigation at 631-702-2230.
