Investigators 'Looking at Speed' As Possible Factor in Northampton Crash: Police
BREAKING: A young woman critically injured in the crash has improved and is now in fair condition, hospital officials said Friday.

NORTHAMPTON, NY — Investigators are "looking at speed" as a possible factor in a tragic crash that killed two young men Tuesday night and seriously injured a young woman, police said.
Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph said Friday that investigators are working to see if speed could have been a factor in the accident; there have been no new developments in the investigation, she said.
Police identified two young men killed in a tragic crash in Northampton Tuesday night as Zachary Powell, 20, of East Moriches, and his passenger, Christian Goody, 20, of Shelter Island; both were pronounced dead at the scene; Ashley Picozzi, 19, of Saint James, was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital, police said.

The crash took place on Tuesday at 9:51 p.m. when Powell, who was driving a 2004 two door Infinity southbound on County Road 51 south of Speonk-Riverhead Road, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway and into a wooded area, police said.
Eastport and East Moriches Fire Department worked on extricating Picozzi, police said.
New York State Police, the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, and East Moriches, Flanders, and Westhampton Beach Ambulance personnel responded to the scene, police said.
The Infinity was impounded to Southampton Town Police headquarters for a safety check, police said.
