Sag Harbor teens collected more than 300 pairs of shoes.

SAG HARBOR, NY — Kids in Sag Harbor embarked upon a new mission recently to give back to those in need.
Members of Sag Harbor’s Pierson High School’s new Interact Club recently held a successful shoe drive for the Southampton Animal Shelter.
Kids collected over 300 pairs of shoes that will be sent to Africa as part of the shelter’s Shoes for Shelters Shoe Drive.

According to the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation's post on Facebook: "We need to collect 100 bags filled with 25 shoes each! Fill a bag with 25 pairs of shoes and drop it off at our shelter. The shoes help families who need it and if we reach our goal the shelter is given $1,000."
The post continued: "The shoes you collect are consolidated by Funds2Orgs and shipped to developing nations around the world. In turn, the shoes are sold by micro-entrepreneurs who seek a hand-up, not a hand-out, from poverty.

"Families in developing countries who receive shoes from Funds2Orgs are those who have little to no income or livelihood. The ability of donated shoes to be sold or repurposed, represent an opportunity for individual families and their communities to develop micro-businesses within their areas. It is the only possibility for true self-sustainability," according to Funds2Orgs
