Man Caught With Stolen Vehicle: Cops

The Florida man was found asleep in Southampton inside a vehicle stolen from the Bronx, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Florida man was arrested in Southampton after he was found in a vehicle reported stolen from the Bronx, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Sunday at 1:15 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a welfare check; the caller reported a person parked on the side of the road on County Road 104, police said.

Responding officers arrived and found white Ford Pickup with a man asleep in the driver's seat; a check of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported stolen out of the Bronx, police said.

Officers woke the driver and identified him as Arthur Edward Black, 28, of Kissimmee, FL, police said.

Black was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters to speak further with detectives and was subsequently charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, police said.

During processing, Black he was found to have a warrant out of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for domestic battery, police said.

Black was held on $500 bail for the local charge and transported to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead, police said.
