Parents Hurt in DWI Crash at Powwow: Police

BREAKING: The children were not hurt after their car was hit by a drunk driver Sunday, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Parents driving their kids home from the powwow at the Shinnecock Reservation were injured Sunday after their vehicle was hit by a drunk driver, police said.

According to New York State Troopers, the crash took place at 8:30 p.m. on Montauk Highway and West Gate Road and involved two vehicles.

Steven Sederquist, 42, of Miller Place, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after troopers arrived on the scene and determined that he was operating under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The parents in the car struck were taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries, as was a passenger in Sederquist's vehicle, police said. The children in the car that was hit were not hurt, police said.

Sederquist was also transported to Southampton Hospital and treated, police said; he is due to be arraigned on Sept. 12. at Southampton Justice Court, police said.
