Police: 4 Arrested During DWI Task Force in Southampton Town
A total of 72 vehicles were stopped as part of the East End DWI Task Force.

Four people were arrested during the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s East End DWI Task Force operation overnight in Southampton Town, police said.
Southampton Town Police hosted one segment of the task force, with eight members of the Southampton Town Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department, Quogue Village Police Department, East Hampton Town Police Department and the East Hampton Village Police Department cracking down on DWI during the notoriously dangerous New Year’s Eve period.
Saturation patrols were utilized throughout the township, police said, and officers stopped 72 vehicles and screened drivers for impairment between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

Three drivers and one passenger were arrested, along with a total of 15 summonses issued, police said.
- Ashley M Beecher, 25, of East Quogue, was arrested at 9:48 pm on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays on a charge of second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle (license suspended pending prosecution for prior DWI)
- A 36-year-old man from Hampton Bays, a passenger in Beecher’s car, was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana
- Jose Mendez-Amaya, 19, of Flanders, was arrested at 10:34 p.m. on Flanders Road in Flanders on a charge of DWi
- Michael J. Hurley, 53, of Westhampton, was arrested at 12:53 am on County Road 104 in East Quogue on a charge of DWI
Police said no motor vehicle accidents were reported throughout the township during the Task Force operation.

“The Southampton Town Police would like to thank all of the designated drivers and those who did drink and
chose not to drive for helping make this New Years safe upon Southampton Town roadways,” police said in a press release.
