Police: Man Busted For DWI After Falling Asleep at the Wheel

The arrest was made on Monday morning.

A Southampton man was arrested on a DWI charge after falling asleep at the wheel in Hampton Bays early Monday morning, according to Southampton Town Police.

Nelson Asitimbay, 22, was stopped at the intersection of Flanders Road and Montauk Highway after he was seen asleep at the wheel of his car while stopped at a green traffic light at about 2:45 a.m., police said.

He was found to be intoxicated and arrested, police said.

He was charged with DWI and first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to police.

Asitimbay was held for morning arraignment.
