Repaving Causing Off Peak, Daytime Lane Closures on Route 27 in Water Mill Set to Wrap Up Friday: DOT

The lane closures are due to repaving, the New York State Department of Transportation said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Paving is set to finish in Water Mill, with off-peak, daytime lane closures having been underway on New York State Route 27/Montauk Highway in the vicinity of Mecox Lane in Water Mill, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

Single lane, alternating directional travel operations have been in effect between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m, the NYSDOT said.

Eastbound motorists are being stopped for a brief period while westbound motorists utilize the single available travel lane; then westbound motorists are being stopped while eastbound motorists proceed, according to a release.

The single lane operations are needed due to inadequate pavement width to safely shift and accommodate two travel lanes, the NYSDOT said.

Brief, intermittent full closures of Route 27 may also be in effect to move construction equipment. The single lane is available at all times to emergency vehicles, the release said.

The lane closures are needed to repave the deteriorated sections of the roadway for all motorists as well as for upcoming bicycling events, officials said.

The work is expected to be completed Friday, weather permitting. Following the road repairs, additional work will be performed off road that will not require lane closures or affect traffic, the NYSDOT said

Drivers are being provided advance notice of the closure via electronic road signs; emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these travel lane closures.
