Residents Invited By Town to Fly Kites in Sag Harbor Tuesday

Free kites will be given to the first 50 to arrive.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Town is inviting residents to fly a kite Tuesday.

The town's new Tri-Energy program is asking residents to participate in an event to note the summer’s “Peak Power Hour”.

The peak hour of energy consumption is the time of day during a heat wave when PSEG LI expects energy demand will put a strain on the energy grid sometimes causing power outages.

In an attempt to reduce that demand and to raise awareness, Tri-Energy has suggested that residents turn up their air conditioner thermostats to a warmer setting, up two degrees or more, in order to reduce the demand on the energy grid on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

And then, residents are asked to bring their kids and head over to Long Beach in Sag Harbor, where they can fly kites at the beach.

Free kites will be provided for the first 50 participants. No beach permits are needed to park at the north end of the parking lot to participate in the event.

Those who attend will also learn how to sign up for a free home energy audit and free rooftop solar evaluation as part of the Tri-Energy program. To learn more, click here.
