Sag Harbor Man Caught Driving While Impaired By Drugs: Police

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Sag Harbor man was cuffed after he was caught driving while impaired by drugs at a joint sobriety checkpoint on Sunrise Highway, police said.
New York State Police in Riverside conducted the joint sobriety checkpoint Friday on Sunrise Highway at the Southampton rest area east of Exit 65, along with members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Southampton Town Police, authorities said.

Richard Obler, 31, of Sag Harbor was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said.
Also arrested, and charged with driving while intoxicated, was [name removed], police said.

They were processed and will appear in Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
A total of 460 vehicles passed through the checkpoint between 10:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Friday night into Saturday morning, police said.
"The New York State Police will continue to combat impaired driving by teaming up with our local law enforcement partners. This multi-agency check point is only the start of many more to come," Major David Candelaria said.
