Southampton Police Get Recognized for Dedication, Service
Members of the Adopt A Cop program stopped by police headquarters on Sunday with treats and letters of thanks.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton police officers got a round of applause on Sunday for all their hard work.
The community group "Adopt A Cop" stopped by Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays "to express gratitude and support for the police officers that serve their community," a release from police said.
Members of the group said they represented thousands of residents of the town that wanted to thank the police officers for the quality of service they provide to the community, the release said.

Snacks and treats were offered; many wrote notes and letters of gratitude for the police officers' dedicated service.
"In a heartfelt speech given by the group’s leader Ann Marie Smith, she noted the recent spike in line of duty deaths that the police profession has suffered. She warmly expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the community for the dedication the Southampton Town Police has for their community," the release said.

"This expression of appreciation has been received humbly by our administration and rank and file officers alike. As a department we are touched by this recognition and are always aware that the strength and effectiveness we have is a reflection of the strong bond and partnership we enjoy with the community that we serve," police said.
