Southampton Town Gives Update On Potential Ponquogue Beach Pavilion Redevelopment
Residents listed what they'd like to see at the Ponquogue Beach Facility — and the town listened. Tell us what you'd like to see there.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The Southampton Town board gave an update recently on the progress regarding the redevelopment of the Ponquogue Beach bathing facility and pavilion in Hampton Bays.
Last summer, the town contracted with consultants Savik & Murray to explore the potential redevelopment of the facility.
Next, the town offered an online survey, which garnered 1,341 responses, as well as two public workshops in September and November, where approximately 150 residents took part, the town said.

And the message was clear — the residents love the facility, for the most part, just the way it is, but would like to see a bit of a facelift.
"Respondents overwhelmingly felt that they did not want to see an extensive redesign of the facility but rather, would like to see the current structure upgraded with some improvements," the town said in a written statement.

Some specific items participants asked for were additional seating, including more shaded areas, a wider walkway/ramp to the beach, upgrades to the restrooms, additional outdoor showers, improvements to the parking area, enhanced handicapped accessibility, better flow of movement on the pavilion, new fixtures, decking, siding, railings, lighting and benches, and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
Following a work session presentation with the Southampton town board last week, the consultants and town staff are now working to address some remaining questions and outstanding matters regarding the project, and anticipate that a draft final conceptual design will be presented to the town board in a work session around mid-March, town officials said.
