Southampton Town Supervisor Gives Rundown on Storm Impacts

Storm impacts were seen on Dune Road and in Flanders/Riverside, Jay Schneiderman said.

As snow fell on Monday, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman spent several hours inspecting storm damage and impacts on local roads.

Schneiderman traversed the town with Southampton Police Captain Lawrence P. Schurek Jr. from the town’s office of emergency management and said he believes the town weathered the storm with little damage.

“There was some minor flooding from the astronomical high tide this morning in the usual areas including in the Flanders-Riverside area of Long Neck Boulevard and Iron Point Road. There was also a wash-over on Dune Road in the East Quogue area, that is normally affected by winter storms,” the supervisor said.

Schneiderman inspected areas from Sagaponack to Westhampton and noted the “town held up fairly well and the road crews at the direction of Southampton Town Department of Highways Supervisor Alex Gregor are doing a good job clearing our roads”.

But, he added, “Travel should be restricted to those who absolutely need to be on the roads”.
