Southampton Town Sustainability Committee Members Receive Leadership Awards

Congratulations to Scott Carlin and Christine Fetten!

Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst presented recognition awards on behalf of the Sustainability Committee on Tuesday, Dec. 8 to committee co-chair Scott Carlin and to Christine Fetten, Director of Municipal Works for their leadership.

Carlin, a long time Committee member, has been co-chair for the past two years.

He has played a very significant role in the Town Board’s adoption of the Sustainable 400+ Plan which has become part of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and in providing the Town Board with valuable information resources leading to the adoption of the single use plastic bags ban which became part of Town Law in April, 2015.

Fetten was thanked by the Committee for her leadership in the Solarize Southampton Program which was funded by a grant from NYSERDA.

The 6-week program promoted the use of solar for both residential and commercial customers and resulted in over 184 direct contacts and 23 customers committing to installation.

“The program demonstrated broad community interest in renewable alternative energy sources,” Thorne-Holst said.

Carlin, a professor at Stony Brook University, will continue as a member of the Sustainability Committee.

Committee member Glorian Berk will replace Carlin as committee co-chair along with Dieter von Lehsten.

Fetten indicated that the Town will conduct a second Solarize Southampton campaign in the spring of 2016.
