Most Power Outages Restored After Strong Winds Batter Long Island

More than 1,500 Long Islanders were without power at one point Tuesday evening.

Wind gusts reached 55 mph on Long Island Tuesday afternoon and evening, knocking out power to more than 1,500 residents at one point.

A special weather statement isused by the National Weather Service warning of strong winds has now expired and PSEG Long Island has restored most of those outages. As of 11:05 p.m., there were 333 outages reported on the island, according to the PSEG outage map.

Things will remain windy on Wednesday and looking ahead to Friday–it’s tough to type–but there’s a chance of snow.

The full forecast:

  • Overnight- Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.
  • Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Breezy, with a northwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.
  • Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 20. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
  • Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
  • Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Northwest wind around 7 mph becoming northeast after midnight.
  • Friday- A chance of snow before noon, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Friday Night- A chance of rain and snow before midnight, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
