Town Offers New E-Permitting Process

Southampton Town residents can wave good-bye to long lines in the building department.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Life just got easier for Southampton Town residents applying for permits.

Now, an online application called ePermits lets an individual or company apply from home or from out in the field, avoiding long lines in the building department.

Those seeking permits can choose the type desired, associate it with a specific property, submit an application, make an online secure payment, initiate the permit, and receive a receipt via email, a release from Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman's office said.

The first permits offered are electrical permits, with more to be added shortly. ePermits also provides a person with the ability to renew an existing permit, the release said.

“We know this is the wave of the future," said Southampton Town GIS Manager Ross Baldwin.

“This is going to give residents and contractors easy access for permits and it will help our building department work more efficiently," Schneiderman added. “This is just another step the town is taking to make government more accessible and efficient for everyone.”

The Town’s new ePermits system can be found online by clicking here. For those in Southampton Town Hall, the new ePermits system can also be accessed at the town’s new eDocs center, across the hall from the building department.
