Town To Purchase Recreational Easement on Southampton Golf Range

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Town is poised to announce the purchase of a recreational easement on the Southampton Golf Range.

The purchase, which will be made with $6.5 million in Community Preservation Funds, means that the land will remain focused on recreational use into the future.

The Golf Range is located on County Road 39 at Tuckahoe Lane; the 13- acre property has been operated by the Hansen family as a golf range since 1957 and the family intends to continue operating the golf range, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said.

The easement means that the land, no matter who purchases it in the future, will feature affordably-priced recreation, such as the ice rink, miniature gold and driving range that currently exist on the site.

"It's not going to be an appliance store, a car dealership, a supermarket or a restaurant," Schneiderman said. "It's going to pretty much stay what it is."
