20-Year-Old Flees After Traffic Stop And Crash

The driver faces two misdemeanor charges plus more vehicle and traffic violations than they were initially pulled over for.

CARMEL, NY — Carmel police report the arrest of a 20-year-old Pawling resident accused of reckless driving and fleeing a police officer.

At 10:50 a.m. on Route 6, an officer on patrol watched an eastbound Nissan sedan commit several vehicle and traffic violations. After it pulled over, and the officer began to approach, the car drove away.

The vehicle was found shortly thereafter in a wooded area off Longdale Road, having struck a tree.Officers found two passengers, but the driver had fled into the Lake Casse neighborhood.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Mahopac Fire Department also responded to the scene of the crash and officers began to search for the fleeing driver. Fulmar Road School was notified due to its proximity to the incident and locked down as a precaution.

The fleeing driver was quickly located and taken into custody. The vehicle passengers were identified and released after investigation.
