DEC Accuses Southeast Resident Of Negligence Near A Leaf Fire
Open burning of debris is the single largest cause of spring wildfires in New York; the annual prohibition starts today.
SOUTHEAST, NY — On March 7 at 3:18 p.m., Putnam County requested Forest Ranger assistance with a brush fire that started with leaf burning in the town of Southeast, the state Department of Environmental Conservation reported.
Brewster firefighters, with help from Croton Falls and Carmel firefighters, used leaf blower backpacks along with rakes and shovels, to build a fire line to stop its spread, they said on Facebook.
New York State Forest Rangers Joseph Pries and Aubrey Russo responded and issued tickets to the property owner for failure to remove flammable material within three feet of a fire and leaving a fire unattended.
