The crash happened early July 10.

CARMEL, NY — A Putnam Sheriff's Deputy and a motorcyclist collided early Wednesday morning on Route 6. The crash took place at 6:45 a.m., closing the road until about 8 a.m.

The deputy, who was driving east on Route 6 near Putnam Plaza, saw a driver in a westbound vehicle commit a traffic violation. He started a U-turn in pursuit, said Captain Lisa Ortolano.

Behind him were two cars. A motorcycle behind them veered left to go around them and accelerated into the police car.
