Raising Funds For Hudson Valley Coast Guard Member's Family

Chief Warrant Officer Mike Kozloski died in a tragic work accident in Alaska. People there have started a GoFundMe campaign for his family.

Members of the Homer, Alaska community are raising money for the family of Chief Warrant Officer Mike Kozloski, the New Yorker who died in a tragic accident in that small fishing town. So far, $31,090 of the $50,000 goal has been raised by 422 people in just four days.

A member of the Coast Guard from Mahopac, Kozloski was working in a buoy yard when a crane tipped over and fell on top of him. First responders tried giving him CPR and rushed him to a hospital, but he ultimately died of his injuries. He was 35.

"Please help the Alaska Training Room raise funds to assist his wife, Brie, raise their 4 beautiful children. Thank you for your kindness and generosity," says the note on the GoFundMe page.

Kozloski was assigned to the cutter Hickory, a 225-foot, sea-going buoy tender.

“It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted shipmate, husband and father following this tragic accident,” said Rear Adm. Matthew T. Bell Jr., Coast Guard 17th District commander. “Chief Warrant Officer Kozloski faithfully served his country for over 17 years and we are forever grateful for his steadfast devotion to duty and sacrifices.”
